General Maintenance Technicians in Anderson and Muncie, IN


The General Maintenance position installs, maintains, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems in an industrial establishment by performing the following duties

Responsibilities of General Maintenance:
• Responsible for working safely and reporting all unsafe acts and conditions
• Understands and troubleshoots the ammonia-based refrigeration system, including repairing and replacing parts as appropriate
• Maintains 110 volt single phase and 220/480 three phase systems as well as repair and/or rebuild magnetic starters
• Repairs plumbing problems, including pressure regulations and valves
• Fixes cracks in the masonry and performs finishing work
• Repairs and troubleshoots electrical forklifts, including motors, drive units, and hydraulic cylinders
• Performs welding on pipe, racking forklifts, and finish work
• Changes and troubleshoots electrical contacts when necessary
• Responsible for general carpentry work, including shelving, base and trim work, finish work, and fabrication
• Maintains and reports all building equipment as necessary

Requirements of General Maintenance:

  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing routine and preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, drives, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, feeders, and production machines
  • Following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions
  • Responsible for the calibration of feeders
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments to diagnose machine malfunctions
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, or tools
  • Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt
  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Provide mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. As well as, recording type and cost of maintenance or repair work
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned

Requirements of General Maintenance:

  • Electrical Experience: 480v ac, switchgear, 24vdc, 110vac
  • PLC: Must be extremely proficient in PLC’s (this should include touchscreens, changing values and bits, and installs)
  • Troubleshooting experience – Not your basic blown fuse or broken part fix, but line calls where they have to find the problems themselves.
  • They must be able to diagnose accordingly and fix it properly as quick as possible
  • Hydraulic experience
  • Pneumatic experience
  • Machine maintenance
