Building Homes for Hope: Morales Group’s Trip to Mazatlán

Building Better Futures with YWAM Homes of Hope | Mazatlán 2023
Last month, nearly 30 members of the Morales Group team traveled to Mazatlán, Mexico, to partner with YWAM Homes of Hope, building two homes for families in need. This tradition has become a core part of our mission, demonstrating our belief that more margin = more mission. With this year’s build, we have helped construct 24 homes – these homes represent more than just shelter; they offer stability, security, and the foundation for a brighter future.
Our mission—Building Better Futures, One Story at a Time—extends beyond workforce development. It’s about creating meaningful change in the communities we serve, both locally and globally. Through these mission trips, we’ve seen firsthand how access to safe housing transforms lives, and we are honored to play a role in that transformation.
Why This Work Matters
For many families in Mazatlán, homeownership is an uphill battle. The cost of a plot of land ranges from $7,000 to $10,000, while the Mexican minimum wage equates to just $493 per month. This financial reality means it can take years, even decades, for families to secure land, let alone build a home. To qualify for a Home of Hope, families must either own or be close to owning their land, ensuring that their property remains theirs for generations to come.

By partnering with YWAM Homes of Hope, Morales Group helps bridge this gap—turning homeownership from a distant dream into a reality. The impact of these builds is immediate and life-changing, not only for the recipient families but also for our team members who witness the power of giving firsthand.
More Than a Home: A Fresh Start
The two families who received homes this year welcomed us with open arms, sharing their stories and hopes for the future. These moments are a reminder that the work we do extends far beyond the walls of these homes. It’s about dignity, opportunity, and the power of community.

Each trip is a testament to the incredible partnerships that allow us to serve. Whether it’s our internal teammates who dedicate their time, our clients who support our mission, or the families in Mazatlán who inspire us with their resilience—every person involved plays a crucial role in making this work possible.
What our Teammates had to say
One of our teammates, who participated in the mission trip for the first time, shared, “It was eye-opening to be able to put our mission into practice for families that truly needed it. It was impactful for me to be able to give back to a community that deserves so much more.” – Steven Stachyra, Account Executive
Returning teammate Matthew Modglin, HR Compliance + Safety Administrator shared this, “I love the home build, each time it is a new experience. Learning about the families in need and connecting with people that you do not usually work with makes each time a unique experience. It is a wonderful way to serve and give back.”
“I recently had my fifth home build in Mazatlán, and each experience has been uniquely special. Love can be exchanged between friends, siblings, and spouses, but it is also easy to feel love and pass along love to strangers, even when you don’t speak the same language. This is something that is obvious during our home builds in Mexico. Our Morales Group mission is building better futures one story at a time, and this reciprocal mission stands true for us building homes for the families we serve, while the families enrich and better our teams’ lives with their gratitude and love. It is this type of community outpouring that makes Morales Group special.” – Jodi Merryman, Customer Success Manager
