At Morales Group, we are a cause disguised as a business. We showcased our support of both Earth Day and maintaining sustainability this month as a company. Before we start, we’d love to share more of what Earth Day is and why sustainability is so important for companies to embrace.
What is Earth Day
Earth Day is a global event celebrated annually on April 22nd. This day aims to show support for environmental protection, serving as a reminder of the importance of caring for our planet and encouraging individuals and organizations to take action.
Started in 1970, Earth Day has evolved into a worldwide movement with millions of people participating in various activities to promote sustainability and raise awareness about environmental issues.
At Morales Group, we wanted to participate in Earth Day celebrations by educating our teammates on the importance of plants and the significance of recycling. We achieved this feat through one of our amazing Morales Unidos Networks.
Sustainability Morales Unidos Network (M.U.N.)
We believe everyone has a voice and deserves a place to freely express their views. Our Morales Unidos Networks create safe spaces for like-minded individuals who support and share similar values. As Earth Day approached, our Sustainability network aimed to make an impact not just for one day, but throughout the entire month of April.
Our company is committed to fulfilling our mission of Building Better Futures, One Story at a Time. To align with our core values – Be Humble, Be Courageous, Be a Light, and Be Gritty – we come together monthly as a group to identify ways we can create a more sustainable future. Together, we organized some fun, engaging activities that help contribute to a brighter future, all while having fun.
Sustainability Initiatives for Earth Day
In the month of April, we practiced sustainability by hosting a Hardware Recycling Drive. We collected hardware items such as monitors, computers, cords, and more that were no longer in use. These items were picked up from our facility by our amazing partners, Resultant, who then properly recycled/disposed of the electronics.
Additionally, we pledged to ‘power down’ our workspaces when not in use to conserve energy throughout the month and for all months to come. By adopting this practice, we not only saved costs but also reduced our carbon footprint and encouraged sustainable habits among our team members.
Planting Day Celebration
One of the highlights of our Earth Day celebrations was the planting day. In tandem with our Supply Chain division, Acción Performance, we gathered after our company-wide monthly L.E.G.O.S. meeting to work together in a fun and meaningful activity. The planting day was a great opportunity for team bonding and fostering a sense of unity. We enjoyed working together, sharing tips on plant care, and appreciating the beauty of nature.
We planted small workstation succulents to add a touch of green to our workspaces. This not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of our environment but also had several benefits for our well-being.
Special thanks to our incredible Acción Performance partner, veryplants, for providing us with amazing succulent potting mix. The potting mix that we utilized is not soil at all. In fact, it’s a carefully blended mix of key organic and mineral ingredients plants need to thrive.
By incorporating plants into our workspace, we aimed to improve air quality, reduce stress levels, and enhance productivity. Plants have a positive impact on our well-being and create a more pleasant work environment.
Impact of Sustainability Efforts
Through our sustainability initiatives, we were able to make a significant impact on the environment and promote a culture of sustainability within our organization.
The Hardware Recycling Drive allowed us to properly dispose of electronic waste and prevent it from ending up in landfills. By recycling these items, we reduced the environmental harm caused by improper disposal methods.
Powering down our workspaces when not in use helped us conserve energy and reduce our carbon emissions. This simple practice can have a significant collective impact when implemented by individuals and businesses alike.
The planting day not only beautified our workspace but also improved air quality and created a more pleasant and inspiring work environment. It reminded us of the importance of connecting with nature and incorporating greenery into our daily lives.
